A movax driving piles into an embankment

VolkerGround Engineering at Rother Tidal Walls – East

VolkerGround Engineering recently mobilised to Rother Tidal Walls in East Sussex, with a Menzi Muck M540 Spider Excavator to install 20, 8m long GU sheet piles. The piles will help our client to complete permanent construction works installing a flood defence to protect the local area.

Access to the work area was extremely challenging and following a successful on-site trial earlier in the year, the use of a spider excavator was identified as the most effective solution. Unlike traditional plant, which would have required the construction of a substantial platform, the spider excavator was able to traverse down a steep ramp and reach the work area. This innovative approach significantly reduced the time needed to complete the works—an essential benefit given the tidal conditions affecting the area where the piles were being installed.

The VolkerGround Engineering team also utilised piles from existing stock, delivering a carbon saving for the project.
