Responsible for managing and co‑ordinating teams delivering Streetlighting works across the Somerset area, including both directly employed operatives and subcontract partners. The role ensures operational and financial targets are achieved, with all activities delivered in line with contract requirements and HSEQ policies and procedures. Duties include overseeing day‑to‑day operations for both planned and reactive Streetlighting works and deputising for the Project Manager across all aspects of the contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver all operational requirements in line with the contract and client expectations.
- Maintain strong operational practices and ensure full compliance with HSEQ, environmental and quality standards.
- Produce required reports on time and ensure adherence to the Site Management Plan.
- Lead, train and support operational staff, subcontractors and agency labour.
- Oversee site operations, inductions, inspections, permits and safe working procedures.
- Plan and resource labour, plant and materials effectively while controlling costs.
- Identify variations, maintain accurate records and support programme updates.
- Check drawings and contract documents, raising discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain statutory registers, digital records and depot/site compliance standards.
- Work collaboratively with clients, head office teams and stakeholders to support contract performance and development.
About you
This role requires a strong background in highways or streetlighting operations, ideally with around 10 years’ experience in a similar environment. A relevant qualification such as an NVQ, HNC, BTEC or City & Guilds is expected, supported by solid computer literacy and a good standard of written and spoken English. The position also calls for excellent time‑management skills, the ability to manage multiple operational demands, and a confident, proactive approach to leading teams and delivering high‑quality work.If your past experience doesn’t match perfectly with every requirement of the job description, we still encourage you to apply.
